The 22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-Apprenticeship) is designed for individuals looking to start a career in the building and construction industry, particularly those interested in pursuing a carpentry apprenticeship.

Ideal for school leavers, career changers and aspiring tradespeople, this course provides the practical skills and industry knowledge needed to take the first step towards employment in the construction sector.

Throughout the course, you will gain hands-on experience using a wide range of building materials, tools, equipment and techniques commonly used across residential and commercial construction projects. You’ll develop foundational trade skills while building an understanding of industry expectations, workplace safety and construction practices.

As a pre-apprenticeship program, this qualification is specifically designed to prepare students for an apprenticeship pathway and enhance their readiness for employment within the construction industry.

Upon completion, you’ll have the confidence, practical experience and industry-recognised training needed to pursue apprenticeship opportunities and begin your journey as a skilled tradesperson.

Approximately eight hours of additional individual study across 13 weeks - Monday to Thursday

AGA Provides a range of support services to assist students throughout their training, including Language, Literacy and Numeracy(LLN) support, digital literacy assistance, reasonable adjustments and general student support services.
The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) gives possible career outcomes of:
  • Apprenticeship in Carpentry
  • Apprenticeship in Joinery
The outcome of the Certificate II Building and Construction does the requirements for a registered builder.
Delivered through a blended approach, you’ll have
  • Three days of in-class learning and approximately eight hours of individual study per week over 13 weeks
  • Practical training and assessment by qualified trainers.
  • Multiple intakes are available throughout the year.
Course details may change according to industry and regulatory standards. Students have access to our online Learning Management System to access training and theory assessment content and are required to have their own access to a laptop. Assessments are completed with a combination of written questions, exams and a portfolio of practical
  • Students are required to pass the ACSF LLN test at the required level in reading, writing and numeracy
  • Have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform assessment tasks.
  • Students are required to successfully complete a Pre-Training Review to establish suitability and appropriateness for the program.
  • Have sound computer skills to navigate simple software to complete assessment activities with AGA online learning management system. 
  • You must be 18 years of age or above at the time of application or have parent/guardian permission to enrol.
  • Students under the age of 17 require documented permission from Secondary School administration
  • Students obtaining a ‘Competent’ result for all units studied will be issued a ‘Certificate’ – 22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) by AGA.
  • Should a student not complete the full qualification, a ‘Statement of Attainment’ will be issued for the units which the student is deemed ‘Competent’.
