About Workplace Placement

To complete the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you’ll undertake a practical work placement in a real early childhood education environment.

You can nominate your own approved workplace, or we can help you find a suitable daycare, kindergarten or early learning setting that matches your goals. Before you begin placement, you’ll attend face‑to‑face workshops designed to build your confidence, develop core practical skills and prepare you for real‑world experience with children aged birth to five years.

To successfully complete the qualification, 100 hours of practical placement are required.
  • Prior to starting the placement, students must:
    • Have a valid Working with Children Check.
    • Attend a face-to-face Practical Placement Preparation Workshop.
  • During the placement, students will complete various work placement activities and will be observed by a Trainer and Assessor in a school setting.
  • AGA will assist the students to find their work placement in their local area. If a student is currently working in an education support capacity, work placement may be completed by their employer with approval from AGA.

This course is delivered through a combination of online training face to face workshops and practical assessment in the workplace. Students will complete:
  • 90-minute training session each month (online or face to face) 
  • Structured self-timed online study with access to phone an email support 
  • Two 1-day face-to-face practical placement preparation workshops.  
  • 100 hours of Work placement across 2 blocks at an approved primary school location.   
If a student is currently working within a primary school in an Education Support capacity, work placement may be completed with their employer with approval from AGA. For students who do not currently have a suitable workplace, AGA will assist the student to find a location in their local area.  
  • An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.  
  • Students are required to pass the ACSF LLN test at the required level in reading, writing and numeracy 
  • Have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform assessment tasks. 
  • Students are required to successfully complete a Pre-Training Review to establish suitability and appropriateness for the program. 
  • Have sound computer skills to navigate simple software to complete assessment activities within AGAs online learning management system. 
  • Have access to a laptop or computer  
  • Students under the age of 18 require documented permission from Secondary School administration. 
  • Have the ability to complete 100 hours of practical placement hours during school terms.  
  • Working with Children Check
  • Students obtaining a ‘Competent’ result for all units studied will be issued a ‘Qualification’ – CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support by AGA.
  • Should a student not complete the full qualification, a ‘Statement of Attainment’ will be issued for the units which the student is deemed ‘Competent’.
