22614VIC Certificate II in Building & Construction (Pre-apprenticeship)

This qualification is designed to prepare you if you want to enter the building and construction industry, particularly for those interested in pursuing a carpentry Apprenticeship. We equip you with essential skills and knowledge required to secure employment as an apprentice across various sectors within the industry. The course also introduces you to materials, tools, equipment and techniques relevant to different areas of the construction field.

Core Units:
  • CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • CPCCOM1014 Conduct workplace communication
  • CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations
  • CPCCCM2006 Apply basic levelling procedures
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • VU23314 Erect and safely use working platforms
  • VU23312 Prepare for work in the building and construction industry
  • VU23313 Interpret and apply basic plans and drawings
Elective Units:
  • VU23320 Identify and handle carpentry tools and equipment
  • VU23321 Perform basic setting out
  • VU23322 Construct basic sub-floor
  • VU23323 Construct basic wall frames
  • VU23324 Construct a basic roof frame
  • VU23326 Install basic window and door frames
  • VU23325 Install basic external cladding
  • VU23327 Install interior fixings
  • VU23328 Dismantle basic timber structures
  • VU23329 Construct basic formwork for concreting
This program runs for 20 weeks, excluding school and public holidays.

The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) gives possible career outcomes of:
  • Apprenticeship in Carpentry
  • Apprenticeship in Joinery
The outcome of the Certificate II Building and Construction does the requirements for a registered builder.
  • Delivered through a blended approach, you’ll have three days of in-class study (approximately eight hours of individual study per week over 16 weeks), practical training and assessment by qualified trainers.
  • Students have access to our online Learning Management System to access training and theory assessment content. 
  • Assessments are completed with a combination of written questions and practical tasks. 
  • An Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Students are required to pass the ACSF LLN test at the required level in reading, writing and numeracy
  • Have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and perform assessment tasks.
  • Students are required to successfully complete a Pre-Training Review to establish suitability and appropriateness for the program.
  • Have sound computer skills to navigate simple software to complete assessment activities with AGA online learning management system. 
  • Have access to a laptop or computer to bring to training sessions.  
  • Students under the age of 17 require documented permission from Secondary School administration
  • Students obtaining a ‘Competent’ result for all units studied will be issued a ‘Certificate’ – 22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pre-apprenticeship) by AGA.
  • Should a student not complete the full qualification, a ‘Statement of Attainment’ will be issued for the units which the student is deemed ‘Competent’.
